Disha Salian Case: CBI and Mumbai Police Deny Closure Report Claims

False narrative pushed by some media houses exposed; no clean chit to anyone, say officials
Mumbai – In a significant development in the Disha Salian gang rape and murder case, the CBI and Mumbai Police have officially denied media reports claiming the case was closed. According to senior officers from the Mumbai Police and the Special Investigation Team (SIT), no closure report has been submitted to date, and the investigation is still ongoing.
The officers confirmed that the case is being thoroughly probed by the SIT and that reports suggesting the case is “closed” or that Disha “committed suicide” are false, misleading, and obstructive to the investigation.
CBI Clarifies: No Investigation Done, No Clean Chit Given
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has categorically stated that it has not conducted any investigation into the Disha Salian case, and no individual, including Aditya Thackeray, has been given a clean chit. Adv. Nilesh Ojha, legal counsel for Disha’s father, Mr. Satish Salian, claimed that the media is pushing a false narrative to shield the accused and to malign key witnesses.
Initial Closure Report Declared Invalid
An initial closure report filed on February 14, 2021, was later challenged after serious allegations emerged that it was fabricated to protect the accused. In December 2023, Mr. Satish Salian’s detailed statement was officially recorded, and based on new evidence, the previous closure report was declared invalid and withdrawn. The case was reopened, and the investigation is now focused on gang rape and murder angles.
Financial Transactions Behind Misinformation?
Adv. Ojha has further alleged that crores of rupees were exchanged between certain media outlets and vested interests to run false stories. He claimed that this campaign had political backing, allegedly orchestrated by Aditya Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, to mislead the public and shield the real culprits. He has demanded an urgent investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Mumbai Police into the matter.
Warning of Legal Action
Mr. Satish Salian has informed that separate legal proceedings—civil, criminal, and for contempt of court—are in the process of being initiated against those journalists and media houses who have been found to be deliberately spreading defamatory, false, and misleading information regarding the ongoing investigation into the death of Ms. Disha Salian.
According to Mr. Salian, these media entities, by publishing unverified and malicious narratives, have not only attempted to tarnish the image and integrity of key witnesses and complainants, but have also undermined the ongoing judicial and investigative processes. Such actions, he stated, constitute a grave abuse of the freedom of the press and amount to a willful interference with the administration of justice.
The proposed legal action will seek appropriate remedies including damages for defamation, criminal accountability under relevant sections of the IPC, and proceedings before the Hon’ble Courts for contempt, given the deliberate attempts to influence public perception and disrupt due process.
Mr. Salian has reiterated that no individual or entity is above the law, and that such conduct will be met with strict legal consequences.
